Cold day in Hell……

Pilfered it from Mason’s blog.

BY A CHEMISTRY STUDENT

The following is an actual question given on a University of Arizona chemistry mid term, and an actual answer turned in by a student.

The answer by one student was so ‘profound’ that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well :

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time.. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving, which is unlikely.. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let’s look at the different religions that exist in the world today.

Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle’s Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, ‘It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,’ and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct….. …leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting ‘Oh my God.’

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED AN A+.

shpadoinkle?

Once again, I have let a while lapse between posts. Alas, I be a bad blogger *sigh*

Anyway…..

The summer is ending. In the space of one week, I went from being a caregiver at a School Age Program to being a teacher’s aide at a Primary School. It’ll be an interesting experience, and definitively a change from having 30+ pre-teens screaming for blood when they realize I won’t bow to their every whim.

While I do realize that pre-schoolers and children grades 1 and 2 have a tendency to throw just as many tantrums, at least they have a shorter attention span and I’m armed with funny voices and plenty of “inner child”.
I will miss many of the pre-teens, though. Some of them were a joy to work with, as where most of the other caregivers. But, it was time for a change.

I haven’t been able to do much site planning, but a few changes have taken place, and I’m working on learning the stuff I need in order to make the changes I want.
’til we meet again, everyone (all four of you) have a wonderful week!
*bweeeeee!!!!!*

Feature Friday

So, I’ve decided that on Fridays I shall post videos I find interesting.
For my first posting, I’ve chosen a good topic.

Most people think I’m completely off my rocker. They’re right of course. Also, the kids at work have been increasingly noticing that I’m crazy. Very often they point out how random I am. Many wonder how my brain works to come up with such oddities. So…..here’s the answer to:

How does my brain work? Imagine if you can, that every single person/animal in this video is one of my brain cells attempting to process infomration:

………..I hope I have answered your question.

The Earth says Hello….

It’s been a while once more.

Things have happened around my family. My brother bought a house, my sister moved to Montreal.
My Grandmother Teresa Mejia passed away. I do not plan to elaborate on what her passing has meant to me right now.

I’m looking for another job. Had an interview with one of the local schools and we’ll see what happens.

I’ve seriously started thinking about being self-employed. I just have to find out what can I do that could bring in some money.

I overslept this morning, was late for work and am now very dopey. Doing laundry, and dishes.
Yes……this is all very exciting.
I think I’ll pass out now *thud~*

Wacky Wednesday #1

YES, the fact that there’s a #1 next to the title of this post should be cause for you to worry. There will indeed be more in the future.

So…..wackyness. Randomness…..yeah………..

*twiddlethumbs*

Anyway, I realized that I haven’t posted anything on this blog since my happy new year blurb.

I got a job, a car and a couple days ago, a new monitor. The monitor is big and shinny and I wuvs it.

I’m also eating leftovers.

And watching my husband pace in blue pj’s and a cable-knit brown sweater while eating hot dogs.

My new car is 11 years old. The fact that cars are so old over here (well…..for the military, haha) makes me giggle to no end. We’re thinking of a good name for it.

YES……we name our cars. The Bear car is called Señor Skippy. Mine so far has the honorary title of Squeegee. That’s what the previous owner called it.

YES…..we’re weird, but if you’re reading this post, then you already know that.

If you’re a webcomic person and enjoy off-the-rocker fun, make your way towards both DAR and Dylan Meconis‘ (author of Bite Me!) site. Their work has been launched for sale and it is a worthy purchase. My copies are somewhere in the CONUS (yay for fancy military accronyms) and should be arriving to my greedy lil’ hands……someday.

I got a speeding ticket. The day after I purchased the van. Pooooooh on me.  I was doing 36 kph. on a 25kph zone. I’m a speed demon. *hangs head*

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that’s all for Wacky Wednesday!!!!!

Everybody have a peachy time!

Over and out!!

*thud*

One more down

So the year’s coming to an end. 2008 is a year that will always have a very special place in my heart and life.

I started it out by marrying the man I love and becoming a military spouse looking at an overseas PCS.

I dropped out of school to prepare for the move and we proceeded to go through all our stuff, tossing, selling, donating and deciding what we couldn’t do without.

I travelled to Mexico to say goodbye to my family.

I changed my name, enrolled in a Medical Transcription course and lost my car to a hail storm.

I became a bicycle owner and started building the stamina to ride it – very very slowly – . I enrolled in a Birth Doula course.

I quit my job, packed up our home and took off on a trip to say goodbye to more family and friends. We lost a lot of things to water damage. We left our cats with family.

We took a train trip from Cleveland to Seattle, then hopped onto a plane to Japan.

We suffered jet lag and lost more stuff to water damage.

I injured my ankle, ended up on crutches and lost every single ounce of stamina I had built for the bicycle.

I lost one desktop and a laptop that died over a space of a few months. I bought a new desktop.

I was offered a job and started a mile-long list of background checks for it.

I came to realization that Medical Transcription wasn’t for me and dropped out of it.

I enrolled in a college-level Japanese class.

We spent our first holiday season as a married couple.

I decided to overhaul my website and started planning a cooking section, including video tutorials.

We bought our first piece of furniture together, as well as a car.
The Bear fixed the car with his own hands and taught me how to change a tire.

I don’t think it’s any wonder that we are slightly worn out at the end of this year. Between our wedding in January to our moving overseas, our lives have changed a lot.

2009 will begin with our first anniversary, hopefully me starting my job and the Bear leaving for a few weeks on assignment. If we’re lucky, our household goods will arrive on time, and we’ll actually have our own furniture in our home.

2009………bring it on!

Happy Holidays!

To everyone out there, I wish a great Holiday Season in the company of your loved ones. May this coming year bring you wonderful things!

In other news….I’m having an article on bike trailers/shopping carts published at Okinawa Hai! ^___^

This and that

A lot of things have happened in the last couple of weeks, some happier than others.

First of all, I think I found a job. Everything says that I’ve been hired, but the amount of paperwork required for background checks is astounding. So I really won’t consider myself employed until that hurdle has been dealt with. One good thing to come out of the paperwork, is that I’ve started an information file for myself with all of the elements that are requested in the paperwork. So next time I have to fill out something like this, I have it all on hand, instead of having to go digging through old files……or files that are in limbo…….such as….

Our Household Goods (HHG). I don’t know if I ever mentioned it, but we had a lot of trouble with our shipment. Basically, it disappeared from the system and we couldn’t find it. I finally stayed up one night past midnight, and started calling offices. It was finally located, but at this point, our ETA is February 2009.

Because of the delay and the fact that the MT course has a specific deadline (you have to be approved and pay for extensions), I have dropped out of it. Yes, I’m down about the fact that I spent a lot of money in it, but I think it was the right decision to make. I wasn’t doing well in it and although it’s a good career, I don’t think it was the right one for me.

I did enroll in the doula course through CBI, and that one is going well. I’m enjoying the material very much and look forward to getting certified.

One of the other drawbacks to our HHG not getting here until February, is that the cooking videos will have to wait until I have all of my gear at hand. Still, the time will help me work on the concept and layout of the Cooking section, as well as coming up with a name for it. Anyone have catchy ideas?

That’s all for now! I hope everybody’s enjoying the holidays ^_^

Café Nox Updates

As mentioned in previous posts, I’ve been re-thinking Café Nox and it’s function.

What I don’t want out of my website:

I don’t want to become an online celebrity. Given the fact that there are only about 3 people who ever drop by, I doubt that’s a danger. I also don’t want to have to dedicate every waking hour of my life to a website.

What I want out of my website:

To provide something helpful to others.

My SIL asked me for a recipe the other day and I sat thinking about how to best pass on the recipe. When it comes to cooking, I’m more of a “here, let me show how it’s done”, than “here’s the instructions, just follow them” person.

I have a basic digital camera and started pondering the possibility of answering my SIL’s request with a video on how to prepare the food. In the past, I’ve considered doing more than just posting recipes of stuff I like to make, and well……I started wondering about cooking videos for everybody.

I mentioned enough times out loud in my conversations, that the Bear gave me video-editing software for my birthday, hehe.

So yes, cooking tutorials are on the design table for the future of Café Nox.

That’s one of the brainstorming session’s results. I will update on more as I can.
In the meantime, I leave you with one of Brandon Hardesty’s Re-enactments:
