100 things about me:
(started January 10th, 2007)
Well….sorta. I haven’t come up with a hundred yet. Let’s see how long it takes me to find them.
- I married my first boyfriend.
- I have two nationalities.
- A tutti frutti ancestry of at least 7 countries gives me non-specific physical features that often makes people ask where was I born.
- When people ask me where was I born, I always tell them to guess. No one has guessed right.
- I’m a language fan and will often attempt to mimic speech patterns and styles from others I meet, movies, etc.
- I collect bilingual dictionaries.
- I can usually pick up accents easily. So much so, that I will do it unconsciously and they will later come out in my speech when I least expect it. It confuses people a lot.
- I love learning things.
- I like teaching people to do things I love.
- I’ve been: Librarian, stage and voice actress, clinical psychologist, caregiver, CNA.
- I love creating things.
- I’ve been cooking since I was 7, crocheting since I was 9 and knitting since I was 26. Sewing and carpentry are in the to-learn pile.
- My Abuela Mejía (that’s Grandma for ya), taught me to knit and crochet when I was 9. I picked up crochet very fast. She was very strict with the knitting, so I dropped it quickly.
- Having my hands occupied (knitting, crocheting, drawing) increases the chances that I’ll pay attention to what’s going around me. Teachers were forever puzzled by it, but let me have my way, since it meant I would listen to their lectures.
- I’m allergic to commercial wool and alpaca, and sensitive to other animal fibers, so I only work with synthetics and cotton/cotton blends for the moment.
- I have small feet. Depending on the cut of the shoe, I can wear anything from a 6 to a 7 in women’s and I can wear a size 5 in boys.
- I’m also short.
- I actively practiced traditional martial arts for four years in Mexico. I don’t fight anymore, but still live by the philosophies I learned.
- The beginning of the end of my fighting career came when I fell on cinder blocks from a 4 feet height. I ended up with a muscular hernia on my right shin that had internal bleeding and infection. Took me a while to be able to walk properly again and every time the weather changes drastically, you’ll see me limping.
- Regardless of my very social activities (acting, therapist, nurse aide, etc) I am freakishly shy. People never believe me when I say this. I will go to great lengths to avoid talking to people, but I’ll force myself to do it if I’m in a situation where speaking is necessary. I am not shy around people that I consider close to me, or those with whom I have a common interest and I tend to become a walking riot at workplaces.
- I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) .
- My mother has been playing the piano since she was 10 years old. She would often play Chopin while we were growing up and to this day, every time I hear Chopin’s “Waltz No 3 in A Minor, Opus 34 No 2″, I get very nostalgic.
- I don’t like gold. I positively adore silver. Mexican silver specially.
- Despite the previous number, I care very little for fancy jewelry. Most of the jewelry I own is exceedingly plain and simple. The odd pieces I have come from me being an odd person myself….and enjoying art faires.
- I have 5 ear piercings.
- I’ve been wearing the same set of earrings since 2002.
- I love A5 and B4 paper. It makes me mad that it’s not readily available in all office supplies stores in the US.
- I taught my husband to knit.
- Every week I make a menu of meals for my household. It helps me keep grocery costs low, use things from my pantry and reduce the time spent staring at an open fridge going “I wonder what should we have tonight…….”.
- I’m a doula-in-training.
- I was bullied a lot growing up.
- I swear A LOT.
- I’m completely off my rocker. So is my husband. We thank God for it everyday.
- For years I couldn’t stand being near anything colored pink. I have since learned to tolerate it, but doubt it’ll ever be part of my favorites. If we have a daughter, I’m sure she’ll love pink because God has a sense of humor.
- I plan on learning as many languages as I can in my lifetime.
- After the places I’ve worked at, it is very hard to shock me or gross me out.
- I wanted to be a nun when I was younger.
- I love to write and there’s usually one or two stories playing in my head like a movie at all times.
- I talk to myself a lot.
- All of the female leads in my stories/rpg’s have names that start with the letter “A”. There’s no Freudian reason for it, I just picked a letter at random and decided that I was going to try and find as many leading names with ‘A’ as I could. Someday, I’ll change the letter.
- I like doing random things. It has a tendency to puzzle people.
- People who have been around my home think that I’m extremely organized. The truth is that I’m both absentminded and accident prone. If I don’t put things in specific places I will never find them or I’ll trip over/break them.
- I’m a firm believer that some people shouldn’t be allowed to breed.
- I have a short and erratic attention span. I will be talking to someone and suddenly go off on a subject that had no relation to the previous one, then return to the original. My husband finds this very entertaining.
- I like researching and learning all sorts of things. Like the origins of cheese, worldwide myths, astronomy or the philosophy of giraffe’s on stilts. Someone asked me why I do it and I was confused, ’cause I thought everybody did.
- A lot of people think I’m weird……..they’re mostly right.
- It has taken me over two years to get this far on the 100 things list….
- I have a tendency to answer almost every question I am asked. People have found out about this the hard way. Oddly enough, I’m a very private person. I think it comes down to this: if I am asked, I will answer, otherwise, I won’t volunteer the information.
- I will never answer questions concerning other people’s issues (a.k.a I don’t tell things people have told me in confidence).
- Today is July 6th, 2009. I’m sleepy, have a bad cough and am trying to convince myself that spending time in the gym tonight is a good idea.
